Our beloved dog, Baloo, was recently diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), a painful condition caused by a herniated disc in his neck.

Since his first veterinary visit on July 9, Baloo has been living with ongoing pain. We initially hoped that medication and strict rest would allow him to heal, but unfortunately, his symptoms have not improved. His medications provide temporary relief, but they cannot address the underlying problem.

Baloo is normally the sweetest, spunkiest boy—a loving companion whose joyful personality means everything to us. Watching chronic pain keep him from being himself has been heartbreaking.

We were referred to Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Matthews, where we learned that an MRI and surgery offer Baloo his best chance at a full recovery. His prognosis is very encouraging, but the estimated cost of the MRI and surgery is between $7,000 and $7,500.

We are doing everything we can to find a way forward, but we cannot cover this expense alone. Earlier this year, we used much of our available savings to pay for our other dog’s cancer treatment and end-of-life care. Asking for help is not easy, but Baloo deserves every chance to live without pain and return to the happy, affectionate dog we know and love.
